Internet TV Ponderisms

Online TV vs. DVR

I am wondering if online TV will make DVR and TiVo obsolete. Here’s my logic:

I have DVR with my digital cable plan. I was super excited when my husband ordered it and I use it a lot. I use it at least 4 times a week. One for Heros, then The Hills, then House, and lastly is CSI.

A cool thing about DVR is that you can set it to record every episode of a series. I have done this with Heros and House. It is set to record that show each week at the same time on the same channel every time. I did not do this with The Hills because I can always catch a re-run of that show. I didn’t do it with CSI becuase sometimes CSI doesn’t always have a new episode every week. I figured that at the beginning of the week, if the CSI would be a new one, I could set it to record One Episode rather than have old ones recorded and saved. My DVR can only hold 4 recorded programs at a time.

Well, I forgot to set it to record CSI last week… and it was a new one. I forgot it was on and didn’t turn the TV on until 20 minutes into the show. I missed the first 20 minutes which explains who is dead, where they were found and so on. You can record or rewind anything in the past. For example, if you turn on a show halfway through it, you cannot rewind to the beginning or record from the beginning. So, I was pretty bummed that I had missed the first 20 minutes of my show.

Then I found out that I can watch the entire show of CSI on CBS.com. You just go there and click on the show that has aired and watch it right there on your computer. Many television channels offer this feature now. I belive MTV, ABC and TBS do this also. Now I’m wondering why you even need to record the show if you can watch it anytime online…

I guess both have their upsides, like my TV screen is bigger than that of my computer, but I think one day the TV will just be one big computer. You will just be able to type in what you want to watch and it will show the channels playing that. Until that day comes, you can always enjoy TV on the Internet.

Watching TV

I was watching tv… on the tv… and I saw that if you go to that show’s website you can watch past episodes. It was What Not to Wear on TLC. It was fun to watch some of the behind the scenes stuff. Man, technology is really moving. Television on the Internet is really fun, especially if you are going on a trip with your laptop!

Collector Sites

So I went online and searched for “Internet TV” and mostly I found a lot of what I like to call, collector-sites. These are sites that have links to other sites that are playing internet tv. What I was really hoping to find was ONE webiste that can play ALL tv. Guess I will have to keep looking…

Not Technically Internet TV

Although I love YouTube.com, it appears that the website does not classify as television on the Internet. Since it is just videos and such (mostly homemade) it is not technically considered a television viewing website. I don’t really care what the technially consider YouTube.com, I think it’s a hoot! Next time you’re in YouTube.com search for Soulja Boy’s SupaMan Dance Video. About a ba-gillion vidoes will come up, again-mostly homemade. It is a rap song of sorts that has a really cute dance. My favorite videos to watch are the ones of kids doing the dance. Enjoy!

Watch Past TV Shows

Hello again. I was just wondering if any of you out in Internet-land have come across a website where you can watch TV shows that have already aired. For example, I missed an episode of Oprah that had an interesting topic that I really wanted to watch. I was wondering if there was a way to see it on the Internet…

First Experience

Hello! I had, as millions others had, heard about YouTube.com and how you can find just about any video you could think of there. But I had no idea that many other sites were offering videos… and not only videos but live TV as well.

It all started this past summer. My husband and I were going up to Georgia to visit some family. The place where we would be staying did not have cable. No big deal to me because we would be so buy anyways, BUT my husband is a huge golf buff. The particular weekend we were going was the weekend of one of the Majors. There are only 4 a year, and this one was one that Tiger Woods was killing the competition in. Needless to say, my husband was DYING to watch this.

So, after searching the web for quite some time, it turns out that PGA.com itsself would be playing LIVE COVERAGE of the Sunday tournament. (The tournaments are 4 days long, Sunday is the last day). When I told my husband he also cried like a little girl who got the perfect birthday cake!

There are a lot of websites that help you find a particular live TV show/moment. If you have a favorite, I would love to know it! Will keep you posted!
