Online TV vs. DVR
I am wondering if online TV will make DVR and TiVo obsolete. Here’s my logic:
I have DVR with my digital cable plan. I was super excited when my husband ordered it and I use it a lot. I use it at least 4 times a week. One for Heros, then The Hills, then House, and lastly is CSI.
A cool thing about DVR is that you can set it to record every episode of a series. I have done this with Heros and House. It is set to record that show each week at the same time on the same channel every time. I did not do this with The Hills because I can always catch a re-run of that show. I didn’t do it with CSI becuase sometimes CSI doesn’t always have a new episode every week. I figured that at the beginning of the week, if the CSI would be a new one, I could set it to record One Episode rather than have old ones recorded and saved. My DVR can only hold 4 recorded programs at a time.
Well, I forgot to set it to record CSI last week… and it was a new one. I forgot it was on and didn’t turn the TV on until 20 minutes into the show. I missed the first 20 minutes which explains who is dead, where they were found and so on. You can record or rewind anything in the past. For example, if you turn on a show halfway through it, you cannot rewind to the beginning or record from the beginning. So, I was pretty bummed that I had missed the first 20 minutes of my show.
Then I found out that I can watch the entire show of CSI on CBS.com. You just go there and click on the show that has aired and watch it right there on your computer. Many television channels offer this feature now. I belive MTV, ABC and TBS do this also. Now I’m wondering why you even need to record the show if you can watch it anytime online…
I guess both have their upsides, like my TV screen is bigger than that of my computer, but I think one day the TV will just be one big computer. You will just be able to type in what you want to watch and it will show the channels playing that. Until that day comes, you can always enjoy TV on the Internet.
